Q. Where do you live now? Why? What are you doing? A: I currently live in New York as I am doing my undergrad in Biology here at NYU! Q. What are the biggest differences between there and Kaohsiung? What’s the biggest similarities? A: One big difference between Kaohsiung and NYC is definitely the cost of living. Everything in New York is significantly more expensive than in Taiwan and the pace of everything also feels faster and more intense. A similarity between Kaohsiung an

Q. Where do you live now? Why? What are you doing? A: I am currently in a transitional period as I prepare to move from Chicago, US, to London, UK. Having recently completed my undergraduate degree at the School of the Art Institute Chicago , I am now waiting for my graduate program to begin in September at Sotheby’s Institute London. During this time, I have been catching up on books and movies that I did not have time for over the past few years. I am also writing short ess

Colder by the Minute: A Week Until Frozen Jr
by Geneva Chang (Grade 11) Editors Note: Geneva is one of two Stage Managers for this production. When you walk into school in that nice and breezy 27°C air, don’t you sometimes wish that everything could get colder by the minute until it is all… frozen? Ignoring that bad pun, our theater department has been hard at work for the past few months on the production of the long-awaited Frozen Jr , which is to finally premiere this weekend with four shows from March 20 to March 2

IB MOCK EXAMS - PRACTICE OR A MOCKERY?
Opinion by Noah Lindsey (Grade 12) To preface this article that is entirely rooted in a fading interest of any academic activities preceding a long-awaited graduation in about two months, it is important to remind all readers that everything written is merely light-hearted opinion and should not be taken too seriously. I also do not complain this much on a regular basis and, throughout this article, frequently use hyperbolic language for entertainment purposes. The IB mock e

Exit Interview: Jean Tsai
by Ryan Hsu (Grade 11) For many students, Ms. Jean Tsai has been a familiar and caring figure in our school as a counselor, constantly providing guidance over the last three and a half years to those who walk through her door. Unfortunately, this semester marks her last at our school, as she will soon begin a new chapter at an American International School in Chennai, India. Interestingly, the move was "not entirely planned." The school actually reached out to her directly af

I am a second year at the University of Michigan , studying biology on the pre-dental track. I spend most of my time studying, rehearsing for my acappella group, hosting events for the Taiwanese student club at Michigan, and playing mahjong with my friends. I spend quite a lot of time on extracurriculars. Our acappella recently competed in the I

The Paramount Hegemony: Why the Death of the Netflix Deal Didn't End the Monopoly Panic
Opinion by Donggeon Kim (Grade 11) Paramount has effectively won the bidding war for Warner Bros. Discovery. Back in December, Netflix reached an 83 billion deal to acquire a large chunk of Warner Bros. Discovery, including Warner Bros. film and television studios and HBO Max. This deal was countered by Paramount, which offered 111 billion. Netflix refused to counter with a higher offer, effectively having Paramount win the bid. For their initial deal, Netflix came under hea

Q. Where do you live now? Why? What are you doing? A: Currently, I am living in Paris. After completing my military service in Taiwan, I decided to start a new chapter of my life here. One question people in Paris often ask is, “Que fais-tu dans la vie?” — which means, “What do you do for a living?” My usual answer is that I am still searching for what I truly want to do in life. At the moment, I am much like many of you: still studying and exploring different possibilities.

Movie Review: Barbie (2023)
by Erica Liu (Grade 9) I would rate Barbie a 7.5 out of 10. While I liked the movie, I did not find it very exciting since there was not a huge plot twist or anything. Instead, it focuses on character development and powerful lessons learned about identity, self-worth, and social inequality. It is more of a heartwarming experience than a movie with drama and plot twists. One of my favorite parts of the movie was the soundtrack. It fits both the good and bad moments perfectly
