Who Has the Best Fries?

Which restaurant has the best fries? After careful thought and consideration, and taking into consideration a high school survey (which had 98 responses!), I have compiled a comprehensive ranking and rating of all the fries I have consumed from various restaurants and fast-food establishments (in order from worst to best). 

10. KAS Snack Bar Fries

The controversial fries at the Kaohsiung American School’s snack bar have ended up in tenth place, a disappointing result. According to the survey, the KAS snack bar fries had 24 votes for best and 49 votes for worst, giving it a net score of -25. According to a student, the fries at the snack bar are the worst they have ever tasted in their lives. One student also complained that the snack bar fries are dry, hard, and stale.

9. MOS Burger

MOS Burger had 5 votes for best and 21 votes for worst, giving it a net score of -16, placing it in ninth place. Many people have said that MOS Burger fries are flavorless and lack seasoning. However, Josh Wu (11) said, "MOS Burger fries are really good texture-wise, and paired with their chilli sauce and jalapeños, it's just perfect, but by itself, it lacks seasoning."

8. KFC

With 1 vote for best and 14 votes for worst, ending with a net score of -13, KFC fries finish in eighth. Although it is seasoned very thoroughly, many have complained that the texture and the sogginess of the fries ruins their overall reputation.

7. Burger King

With 6 votes for best and 15 votes for worst, giving Burger King a net score of -9, they end up in fifth place. After asking many students around high school, Burger King fries had a horrible reputation. They are soggy, and for some people, they taste "weird".

6. Wendy's

With a total of 2 votes for best and 10 votes for worst, Wendy's places in sixth with net score of -8. It seems like not many of the high school population have tasted Wendy's fries. However, a certified fries critic who graduated from KAS had something to say about Wendy's fries. Jake Yen, an alumnus from the class of 2025 said, "Wendy's fries are often bland and boring, with no crunch. With some salt it tastes okay, but it's a very average brand at the end of the day."

5. Raising Cane's

With 4 votes for best and 11 votes for worst, Raising Canes ranks in number 5 with a net score of -7. Personally, I am a huge fan of Raising Canes fries. The crinkle cut fries are perfectly seasoned with salt and it tastes like it came straight out of the fryer. Although I wouldnt' say these are the greatest of all time, they are certainly up there among the best.

4. Chic-fil-A

With 11 votes for best and 10 votes for worst, Chic-fil-A places in fourth with a net score of +1. Jake Yen was also enthusiastic about Chic-fil-A fries exclaiming, "I love the Chic-fil-A wedged fries because they are uniquely shaped and in turn give off a specia crunchy texture that no other brand of fries can replicate".

3. Five Guys

With 13 votes for best and 10 votes for worst, Five Guys placed in third with a net score of +3. Alexander Jenkins (class of 2025), a gym influencer and lover of Five Guys fries, excitedly claimed, "I love Five Guys fries. They give you an absurd amount of fries, and the seasoning on the fries is just crazy. W Yuki". However, Alex also said he only eats whole foods now because he's a gym influencer.

2. In-N-Out

In the amazing second place, we have In-N-Out with 17 votes for best and 10 votes for worst, ending with an amazing net score of +7. Through the heated discussion between myself and Noah Lindsay (12) about fries, Noah's beloved In-N-Out has ended in second place. Noah says, "In-N-Out fries are so good, once they go in, you never want it to come out".

1. McDonald's

With the grand spot of first place, the Golden Arches have been crowned the BEST fries of all time. McDonald's ended with an astonishing result of 41 votes for best and 10 votes for worst, giving them an outstanding net score of +31. Where do I even start with McDonald's fries... in its prime, they got to be the GOAT of fries.
