The Kaohsiung American School varsity football team ended the 2025-26 season with a second-place finish in the TISSA campaign. For the AISA season, only one senior, Jack Hu (12), is joining the team as the first-choice goalkeeper. As the AISA football season begins, the varsity football team is training and working hard towards the main tournament in April.
Today, I had the amazing opportunity to sit down and talk with the three seniors who played in the TISSA tournament: Jack Hu, Adam Chu, and Johnson Yang. Here’s what they said.
Jack Hu (Goalkeeper #1)

Jack is the only senior going to AISA with the team. He was undoubtedly one of the most important players on the pitch in the TISSA season. He was our only goalkeeper, leading the team with his presence from the back. He has improved significantly with the help of the goalkeeper coach, Igor.
Any comments about the season?
Jack: Even though the training sessions were hard, I really enjoyed spending time with my teammates on and off the pitch. The TISSA season has been quite a journey, and I am glad I got a medal and a trophy in my last year. But the job is not done. I will be the only senior playing in the AISA tournament, so I hope to bring the momentum into this season.
What is your best memory on the team?
Jack: My best memory on the team is probably the bus rides when the team would sing songs and mess around.
Advice/message for the current and future players on the team?
Jack: You guys have lots of potential, but please listen to the coach and work hard. I will still be here for the AISA season, but best of luck to all of you guys!
Bonus Q for Jack: What are your goals for AISA?
Jack: My goal is to keep as many clean sheets as possible, but most importantly, to win games at the tournament.
Adam Chu (Center back #4)

Despite battling with injuries, Adam still played in the TISSA tournament and played a crucial role in the team, leading the team with his experience. Adam will be taking a well-deserved break from football, but will come train with the team now and then. The team will miss his strength and leadership on the pitch.
Any comments about the season?
Adam: We’ve improved a lot as a team this season, and hopefully, we can bring this momentum into AISA and produce some solid results.
What is your best memory on the team?
Adam: My best memory being on the football team was the most recent TISSA tournament. I played a crucial role in our defense line. I stopped many offensive attacks, and we got second place, which was definitely a highlight for me.
Advice/message for the current and future players on the team?
Adam: Drop the ego.
Johnson Yang (Striker #9)

Johnson, despite this being his first season on the varsity football team, has shown significant improvement and solidified his position on the team. Johnson has also tallied up a few goals to his name. He is a true legend of the game.
Any comments about the season?
Johnson: Although the TISSA tournament was the first and last tournament I’ll be playing in my high school career, I have still learned so many things from my teammates and coaches. I am very proud of every one of my teammates, and I hope they do well in the future seasons.
What is your best memory on the team?
Johnson: Despite our skills being doubted by many, we proved ourselves and got second place in TISSA, which was a very proud moment for me. I also really enjoyed the bus rides to games and after games. I will always remember the time I had with all my teammates.
Advice/message for the current and future players on the team?
Johnson: “LISTEN TO YUKI SHIBATAAAAAA”
Let's cheer on Jack and the varsity football team for the AISA season, and send Adam and Johnson our best wishes for the future!
