I am a huge fan of the KAS lunch. If you ask any of my classmates or friends, they will confirm this fact. I am always looking forward to lunch, and I am always aware of what’s on the menu. Though I am far from a professional food reviewer, I consider myself a fairly decent expert on our school’s food.

Ever since the school year started, I have been pondering a very important question. Which lunch option has been the best, the greatest, the GOAT? Which dish has stood out to the KAS student body, and has shown that it is special?

To determine this dish, the best of the best, I created 3 criteria to judge each lunch on:

Criterion A: Taste

Criterion B: Nutrition

Criterion C: Appearance

All criteria would have 5 marks each, with a total of 15 possible marks. May the best lunch win!

First of all, 16 contenders for the best lunch needed to be picked. During this process, I asked many members of the KAS community for their opinions on our lunch, such as my classmates, some people below or above my grade, and even some teachers!

Jan Rychlewicz, an 11th grader, said: “The wraps kinda like burrito like the one with chicken omg its so good W, especially with tabasco sauce.”

I think he was talking about the Tandoori chicken tortilla wraps.

On the other hand, Phoebe Tsai, another 11th grader, claims the deep fried chicken rice with Thai sauce and steamed rice is the lunch that rules them all: “Thai fried chicken is crispy crispy.”

Skyler Lin, class of 2024, favors the black pepper pork chop rice.

“Black pepper pork chop rice is bussing!”.

Profe Ling, the Spanish teacher says: “Spaghetti bolognese is the best, because the sauce is amazing!”.

I posted a story on Instagram asking people what their favorite lunches were, and in addition to that, I also went around the school asking people about their favorite lunches. This method, while being less efficient, provided insight towards people’s first pick lunch choices when put under pressure. I got many, many, different answers, and unfortunately, I had to eliminate some less favorable lunches. When I was done, 16 were left.

The following lunches remained:

  • Soy Marinade Pork Chop rice

  • Karaage Curry rice

  • Lasagna

  • Deep Fried Chicken Rice with Thai sauce and Steamed rice

  • Taiwanese beef noodle soup

  • Macaroni and Cheese with Chicken

  • Pepperoni Pizza

  • Black Pepper Pork Chop rice

  • Tandoori chicken with tortilla bread

  • Teriyaki Chicken leg with rice

  • Braised Chicken leg with rice

  • Spaghetti Bolognese

  • Hainanese Chicken rice

  • Vietnamese Pho

  • Shredded Chicken rice with Minced Pork

  • Mapo Tofu w/ Rice
